MediClin achieved a sales increase of EUR 4.2 mill. and aconsiderably improved operating result in the first quarter of 2015

Offenburg, April 30, 2015 – In the first quarter of 2015 MEDICLIN Aktiengesellschaft (MediClin) achieved Group sales of EUR 136.6 mill. (Q1 2014: EUR 132.4 mill.) thus being EUR 4.2 mill. or 3.1% above the value of the first quarter 2014. On Group level material expenses were below the previous year’s value, staff costs and depreciation and amortisation and other operating expenses increased against previous year’s values. This development let to an improvement of the Groups operating result (Group-EBIT) of EUR 2.6 mill. from EUR -1.0 mill. to EUR 1.6 mill. compared with the previous year’s quarter. The financial result was EUR -0,8 mill. (Q1 2014: EUR -1.0 mill.). The result after tax attributable to shareholders of MediClin AG of the first quarter 2015 improved by EUR 2.5 mill. from EUR -1.7 mill. to EUR 0.8 mill.

Cash and cash equivalents were EUR 22.2 mill. (Q1 2014: EUR 11.1 mill.). In the first quarter of 2015 EUR 6.8 mill. (Q1 2014: EUR 5.0 mill.) were invested in fixed assets (brutto), thus being EUR 1.8 mill. above previous year’s value but still in the line of the budget. The capital investment contain subsidies of EUR 0.4 mill. (Q1 2014: EUR 0.7 mill.).

MediClin employed on average 6,463 employees (Q1 2014: 6,364 employees), calculated on the basis of full-time staff, in the first quarter of 2015.

Development in the segments

Sales of the post-acute segment amounted to EUR 79.2 mill. (Q1 2014: 74.0 mill.) being about EUR 5.2 mill. above the value of previous year’s quarter. The newly established capacities in psychosomatic and in neurology and in the meantime also in geriatric have contributed to the sales increase just as in the second half-year of 2014. Sales in the acute segment were EUR 53.1 mill. (Q1 2014: EUR 54.4 mill.), it decreased by EUR 1.3 mill. Sales in the business area nursing care increased by EUR 0.1 mill. despite a lower number of places.

Due to higher sales the operating result of the post-acute segment improved from EUR -1.8 mill. to EUR 0.7 mill. In the acute segment lower expenses let to a slight increase of the operating result from EUR 3.1 mill. to EUR 3.2 mill.

Outlook

The good start in the 2015 financial year let assume that the sales and earnings targets for the Group and the segments will be achieved.
